Mass communication has a particularly vital and important role to play in the domain of crisis management, particularly in the context of natural disasters and pandemics that have the capability to significantly affect communities. Effective communication strategies are needed because they assist in the dissemination of important information to the masses, in dispelling panic emotions among citizens, and in organizing relief efforts in a concerted manner. This paper adopts an all-encompassing approach in examining the complex role of mass media, social media platforms, and different government communication channels in managing crises in an effective manner, taking the assistance of case studies of some of the biggest disasters and health crises as points of reference. Through a judicious study of the role that dissemination of timely and accurate information plays in shaping the public perception and response, the study endeavors to determine best practices as well as the different challenges involved in the domain of crisis communication. The findings of this study underscore the imperative need for media literacy among citizens, the need to counter misinformation that has a tendency to spread quickly, and the imperative need for the strengthening of communication infrastructure in order to realize the overall safety and resilience of the people during times of crisis.
