Abstract
View PDFParkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease that may result in death or degeneration of the dopamine neurons in the part of the brain called the substantia nigra. Parkinson’s disease is the second most prominent neurodegenerative disease that affects people over fifty. Currently, there are no permanent treatments for the management of neurodegeneration, but the most applicable approach for the management of Parkinson’s disease is to treat to minimize the symptoms of the degeneration. Employing this strategy, there is a variety of pharmacotherapeutics as well as surgical therapies available to treat the symptoms. These symptomatic therapies are easily available in the market. Although there is no effective treatment developed until now, these management therapies are currently employed to minimize the symptoms of neurodegeneration in early stages as well as the later advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease. This review addresses a variety of symptomatic treatment approaches that are presently accessible and used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, including the various drug treatment classes, Nano-medication, phytochemical-based therapeutic strategies, and surgical treatments that can be utilized to alleviate Parkinson's disease symptoms. It also underlines the pharmacological action of the drugs and the indication of advanced technologies to manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
