Gender portrayal in news media has a profound impact on public opinion, shaping social norms and perpetuating or subverting prevailing biases. This research examines the level of gender bias and stereotyping in news coverage across different media outlets, such as print, television, and online journalism. Through content analysis of news stories, broadcasts, and online media, the study examines how men and women are differently represented in political, economic, and social contexts. The research indicates lasting inequalities, with women being underrepresented or presented in stereotypical roles, and men dominating expert and leadership positions within news stories. Efforts at more equal representation notwithstanding, implicit assumptions and entrenched gender norms continue to influence journalism. The research points to the imperative for ethical journalism, inclusivity, and deliberate action from media companies to secure balanced and honest gender representation. Tackling these inequalities can help towards an inclusive and more representative media landscape, towards a society that upholds representation and equality.
